United States Army
The United States Army, the oldest and largest branch of the U.S. military, was established on June 14, 1775, in response to the growing tensions between the American colonies and the British government. As the Continental Army, it was first led by General George Washington and played a crucial role in securing American independence during the Revolutionary War (1775-1783). Following the war, the Army underwent several reorganizations, eventually becoming the standing force responsible for protecting the young nation's borders and maintaining domestic peace.
