Deputy Secretary of Defense renamed and expanded the scope of the AOISMG to the AARO.
Dr. Kathleen H. Hicks became the 35th U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense. The primary responsibility of the role is to operate the defense budget and implement the Secretary of Defense's priorities. The AOIMSG, Airborne Object Identification and Management Group, was formed to synchronize information regarding any threats to national security through airspace. On July 15, 2022, Hicks announced that the group's scope would be expanded and the name amended to the AARO, All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office. The AARO will also monitor anomalous, unidentified space, airborne, submerged, and transmedium objects.
