Westall UFO
April 6, 1966, was the largest mass UFO sighting in Australia. Around 300 people reported seeing a UAP in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The group was comprised of students and teachers who were outside of Westall High School when a saucer-shaped object about twice as large as an SUV descended overhead. It appeared to have a silver or grayish-purple hue as it streaked low above the school, hovered, and proceeded on beyond a line of trees. There are conflicting reports about the number of flying objects, as some say up to five other crafts were observed.
During a morning break at Westall High School, hundreds of students and multiple teachers reported a strange oval object soaring overhead the suburban town. It then hovered above the school for several seconds before taking off again. Some children and adults followed after the object to a nearby small open field and discovered flattened, slightly burnt grass in a circular shape where they believe the object had landed.
Later, a newspaper in the area reported that a weather balloon had been released in the area and several airplanes later surrounded it. Although this information was given to the public, no official reports show any pilots having observed anything unusual in the area.
Later reports from witnesses also note men in suits and military officials informing students and teachers that it was a government exercise and not to discuss the events anymore. Some people claim to have been threatened to stay quiet.
