Trinity: The First Atomic Test
The Trinity test was the first test detonation of a nuclear weapon in world history. The explosion on July 16, 1945 lit up the night sky over Alamogordo, New Mexico at the site of what is now the White Sands Missile Range. The Trinity test was a critical proving grounds for the work performed in the Manhattan Project and an immediate precursor to the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan in early August, 1945.
