The Rendlesham Forest UFO incident was an alleged UFO sighting by US and British military personnel in the woods of Suffolk, England in December 1980. The incident occurred near the RAF Woodruff base, which was at the time being staffed by the USAF. Lt. Col Charles L. Halt, then the deputy base commander, was a direct eyewitness to the encounter. Halt stated that a bright light descended into the forest in the early morning hours of December 26. USAF personnel investigated the scene and discovered a red, oval-shaped craft that hovered above the ground before ascending into the sky. The incident is known as the "Roswell of England".
