Irving Newton

U.S. Air Force Weather Officer
Major

First person to identify the Roswell crash debris as a downed weather balloon.

Irving Newton was a meteorologist in the Army Air Corp during World War II, stationed on many islands in the Pacific theatre and even flew recon for the Enola Gay. After the war he famously was the first person to identify the Roswell crash debris as a downed weather balloon, after the debris was flown to the Fort Worth Army Air Field. At the time he was a warrant officer and the bases only weather forecaster on duty. He continued his career in the U.S. Air Force until 1965, having served in the Korean War and the start of the Vietnam War.
